Ep.8: Interview with “FUN”kaar Gourav Mahna

Updated: Jul 28, 2019

Welcome to C.H.O.R. people!

This blog space is dedicated to interviews & stories of creative people from all walks of life!

Our eighth episode is with “Gourav Mahna”, who is a part-time “Comedian”, a BBE graduate, Financial Consultant & the Co-Founder at Chai Matthi Tales. He lives in Delhi & has been writing for the last 2 years. He draws his inspiration from his mother.

So, Let’s start!

Hey Gourav! Can you tell us something about yourself & your art form? (Our audience is very supportive of you but they keep very very busy so tell in only 140 characters)

I’m Gourav Mahna — Doing stand-up comedy from past 2 years and doing bakchodi for the past 20 years.

So, are you an accidental comedian like most others or did this career decision at least had some planning to it?

My friends always found me funny but I was also an introvert to the core. So yeah a part of the decision to take up standup comedy was planned and a part of it was accidental.

“Everything isn’t an achievement” but also “Achievement ain’t everything”. Can you tell us 3 of your biggest & most satisfying achievements?

Used to watch standup comedy as an audience and always had a dream that one day I would also make an entry from that backstage with peppy background music (CLC visitors would relate to this music). And then the first time when I won my very first open mic at CLC was certainly an achievement.Co-Founded my dream venture Chai-Matthi Tales, Delhi’s first ever comedy collectiveMy first standup comedy video crossing a million views in just over a month of release.

Are you moody like all other artists? If yes or no both, then reveal today the secret style of your writing?

Yes, I am moody in general life but not at all when I am on stage. Once on stage — my only intent is to entertain my audience and earn those precious smiles. The audience is our Mai-Baap and one should never get moody with their Mai-Baap I feel ;)

Do you just give humble autographs or have you had any real interesting incidences with your fans?

I don’t have a lot of fans as of now but yes off late after the video a few people do come for selfies after the show. The fun part is none of them have been uploaded till date 😀. One such incidence happened where one guy came up after the show and said he recognized me because of my voice (my voice got a lot of criticism in the YouTube comments though) — Couldn’t figure out whether that could be taken as a compliment or not :p

“The art of making money with art is bigger than the art itself”. How do you manage to monetize comedy?

Mehez “Exposure” se pet bharna seekh liya hai. Aap bhi try kijiye.

Somebody told me that a poor man cannot be a philanthropist. So, now that you earn with art, will you also help & mentor other new comedians to dream about making their art go big?

No, I guess I am way too far from that stage of ‘supporting’ anyone. Jo bhi paisa comedy se aa raha hai, usse toh khud ko bhi sirf ‘moral support’ hi kar paata hoo.

Our audience loves texting! Do you have any message for them?

Do come for more and more live comedy shows. If you like any artist’s work, do go and let them know after the show or drop in a text to their social media handles. Artists especially comedians are a highly insecure breed and we LOVE validations 😀

Not trying to self-promote, or maybe I am, but then what are your thoughts on our platform Rhymly? You can use more than 140 characters this time :P

Rhymly has been a new and unique platform for the budding writers. I hope and pray it gets a huge funding soon so that Rhymly can then work in a big collaboration with my venture, Chai-Matthi Tales (jab aapka promote Kiya toh apna karna bhi toh Banta hai nai ?)

Finally, Our audience is insomniac & has no option but to watch videos to sleep! So, do you wanna share a link of one of your videos which is close to your heart?

So, that’s it for today!

You can follow Gourav’s comedy & he would definitely love a constructive feedback on his work from you guys!

We will also be back in a few days with Ep.9 with another creative person.

If you think you yourself are very creative, then fill this form to get featured!
